January 6, 2019 by LK Mirrer Three days and two nights on the Appalachian Trail Rain was finally clearing upWindy Appalachian Trail: Nov. 6-8, 2018 Heading south along Whitetop Mountain, toward Buzzard Rock. The rain had ended but a strong – and cold – wind accompanied us along the path toward Buzzard Rock. Buzzard Rock. We would have stopped for lunch here, but the wind encouraged us to keep going. The cold, cloudy and rainy morning evolved into a gorgeous afternoon. We walked by – or through – many healthy water sources. Honestly: Kim’s checking the route, not email. We didn’t have a phone signal for the entire 3 days anyway. Selfie along the dual AT/Va. Creeper Trail The easy walking ends as the flat, wide Virginia Creeper Trail continues to the left, and we return to the AT uphill on the right. Pretty but cold morning view from our makeshift campsite. More rushing water, more slippery leaves. Oh, and a sheer drop off to the left if one slips too far. I walked VERY slowly on sections like this. Our home in Damascus, Va. at the end of our hike. It was reasonably clean, quiet (only one other hiker that night and he was staying upstairs) and provided a lovely hot shower and an enormous cooked breakfast.Co
